Google's Android Ready To Explode Past The iPhone

Google's Android software is on the cusp of becoming a heavyweight in the smartphone world, says Gartner Research.
Gartner thinks Android will be the number two operating system for smart phones by 2012, going from 2% of share today to 14%. It will still lag behind Nokia's open software platform, Symbian, though.

TVCatchup Now Pushing Live UK TV To iPhones

It’s already proved a thorn in the side of broadcasters once; now TVCatchup is trying again. The UK startup, about which little is known, is streaming 11 live British channels (from BBC, ITV (LSE: ITV), C4 and Five) to iPhone’s Quicktime via a new web adjunct (iphone.tvcatchup.com).
Developers Welcome Apple's In-app Purchase Move

Application developers have welcomed Apple’s move to allow them to offer in-application purchases within free iPhone apps. Previously, Apple has only allowed in-app purchases in paid-for apps. Developers were informed of the news in an email yesterday.
CHART OF THE DAY: iPhone Has 30% Of Smartphone Market

RBC Capital Markets performed a survey of smartphone users, asking 4,200 people what kind of phone they owned.
According to their data, the iPhone is now at 30% marketshare, up from 25% in June. New iPhone buyers were "surprisingly strong at 81% of respondents."

Frost & Sullivan has released the results of an end-user study, ‘European CXOs’ Choice: Computing Products and Services’. The research measures European C-level executives’ preferences of mobile communications and computing products and services, focusing on laptop/notebooks, Smartphones, feature phones, web-based collaboration tools, mobile location-based applications, and mobile multimedia content applications.
The survey finds that Smartphone ownership/usage increased dramatically from 2008 to 2009, as nearly twice as many European CXOs now own a Smartphone
