Hollywood Video revamps marketing strategy with mobile

Movie and game rental giant Movie Gallery Inc. has unveiled the new DidjaC? application for Apple’s iPhone and two new Web sites for the company's Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery brands. The new application, which is powered by Atimi Software, lets consumers receive personalized movie recommendations and get up-to-the-minute information on all things movies, bringing the in-store experience to customers via their iPhone.
 
Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey Launches New Mobile Payment Company

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey pulled back the curtain on his new startup today called Square, a mobile payments company.
Square allows anybody with a cell phone or laptop that has a headphone jack to accept credit card payments using a small plug-in dongle, rather than having to purchase costly credit-card processing equipment. As of today, the service is now in a private beta.
 
ElectricPig Launches iPhone App

UK gadget website Electricpig.co.uk has launched an iPhone app. The app, designed by vertical search engine specialist Foundem, is designed to help shoppers save money and avoid bring ripped off. The Electricpig app will instantly tell shoppers if the gadget they have their heart set on can be bought cheaper elsewhere. The app also enables users to check store prices alongside online prices.

App Store traffic grows 57% over Thanksgiving week
Consumer traffic to Apple's App Store increased 57 percent during Thanksgiving week compared to the same period in 2008, according to new data issued by mobile ad exchange Mobclix. In addition, App Store traffic grew 43 percent between Nov. 24 and Nov. 30 compared to the first three weeks of the month. Mobclix also notes that iPhone and iPod touch application usage jumped 59 percent on Black Friday 2009, compared to 34 percent growth on Black Friday a year ago.
